Joshua Tree Yoga Retreat

by Bonnie Gill

I think it’s fair to say we have all daydreamed about road tripping through LA and visiting the lush, deserted pockets of California. Well… what if we told we have planned a yoga retreat around exactly that – situated in the picturesque Yucca Valley, right next door to the Joshua Tree National Park?

Yeah, exciting right?!

Enter Cactus Moon Retreat, a “sigh of relief” in life form, waiting for you to experience it. Home to unobstructed views of San Gorgonio Mountain and surrounded by a juniper studded desert, this spot for our next yoga retreat is going to be pure magic, from sunrise to sundown.

With a private yoga studio, private pool and endless opportunities for walks and hiking, time spent at the Cactus Moon Retreat is quite literally guaranteed to leave you feeling revitalised.

Surrounding spots of Joshua Tree Town are known for weird and wonderful things, like the local motel and bar ‘Pappy and Harriet’s’ playing host to Paul McCartney and Arctic Monkeys once upon a time. Joshua Tree was also dubbed a national monument in 1936 before officially becoming a national park in 1994.

Getting to Cactus Moon and Joshua Tree is a noteworthy trip in itself, worth every minute of driving from LA, passing through Palm Springs before ending up at Joshua Tree National Park and local town Yucca Valley, set to take you just over 2 hours in total (pending fun and exploratory pit stops.)

Our tips? Swing by Moorten Botanical Garden in Palm Springs if you’re a succulent and plant lover, or treat yourself to an artisanal cocktail at Essence Restaurant because, holiday. Spend time exploring the Tahquitz Canyon, a 60-foot waterfall with ancient irrigation systems and rock art, alongside native wildlife – one for the Insta, of course.
