A little wine never hurt anyone, and we are spoilt for choice in Victoria with some incredible wineries just a road trip away.

Our Geelong studio is only 30 minutes drive from Scotchmans Hill, the oldest and largest winery on the Bellarine Peninsula. Our very own teacher Alex Wall doubles as the winery’s marketing manager – so she really gets the best of both worlds. We picked Alex’s brain on all things wine and Scotchmans Hill!

Bonnie: What can wine lovers expect when they visit Scotchmans Hill?
Alex: As pioneers of the Bellarine Peninsula Wine Region, Scotchmans Hill’s passion for bold and exciting winemaking ensures the wines are made first and foremost for people to savour. We have incredibly knowledgeable staff and a delicious local menu, with a cosy marquee and homestead to snuggle into over winter, and a spacious, sunny courtyard over summer. Absolute bliss!

We have wine tastings featuring all of our current vintages, as well as a selection of Cellar Reserve wines that we’ve aged to perfection. We’re only 20 minutes out of Geelong with beautiful sweeping views over our vines and Port Phillip Bay. We were voted Best Large Cellar Door in the region by Gourmet Wine Traveller two years running and just received a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor.

B: What makes Scotchmans Hill so unique?
A: The first vineyards planted in 1982, making it the oldest and largest on the peninsula. Located towards the north of the Bellarine, our rich volcanic soil and cool dry climate results in wines full of flavour.

B: Talk us through your suggested wine and cellar door picks?
A: Our Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the cornerstone of our wines. Our cool maritime climate on the Bellarine is perfect for adding complexity and depth to these wines. Plus, all of our on premise wines are vegan friendly.

B: Tell us more about the seasonal produce on the cellar door menu – why is it important?
A: Our team of local chefs have crafted a menu that perfectly complements our wine. Sourcing from our own backyard, this menu showcases some of the best local produce and artisan goods from the Bellarine Peninsula. A large portion of our ingredients are sourced from our very own on-premise veggie and herb garden, meaning that our menu reflects what is growing by season.

B: What does it take to be one of the best, longest standing wineries on the Bellarine Peninsula?
A: Our identity is shaped by our passion. It drives us to challenge our winemaking to be its best and provide the finest Cellar Door experience in the region.

There you have it! Maybe a dose of yoga and wine is in order?
